Eligibility and Eligible Costs

All TIMA members are eligible to apply except for members of the Board. Grants are available for advanced research in the field of Islamic manuscript studies. At least one of the project co-ordinators must be a member of TIMA to be eligible. Funds may be sought to cover the project costs, including:

  • project planning and development costs (cost of travel for preliminary meetings; initial training with project partners)
  • associated travel and maintenance for TIMA members
  • research assistance or specialist consultancy
  • training workshops and conferences (principally the costs of travel and maintenance for key participants, though administrative costs may be considered)
  • equipment
  • tests and laboratory analysis
  • specialist software
  • manuscript reproductions or other photography
  • publication costs
  • costs related to digitization
  • interpreting and translation costs

Other costs in addition to those listed will be considered. The first resort for funding should be to your own institution or organisation (where applicable). The following items are not currently eligible for funding: institutional overheads, or any item that should properly be considered as such; travel and maintenance expenses for purposes such as lecture tours or to write up the results of research; and students are not eligible to apply for their degree course costs.
