Dr Mandana Barkeshli is Conservation scientist specialized in materials technology of Islamic manuscripts and miniature paintings. She has done extensive researches and studied the materials used in Persian and Moghul manuscripts and miniature paintings from paper leaf, dyes, sizing materials, to binding mediums and pigments based on traditional knowledge i.e. the historical treatises and her own scientific analysis from original samples. She is internationally recognized for her patent findings related to the traditional preservation measures in Iran such as saffron stigmas as an inhibitor for preservation of destructive effect of green verdigris pigment in Persian miniature painting and henna dye used as fungicide in Persian paper dying process during 16th to 19th century. She is currently holding an Associate Professor possition in International Islamic University Malaysia in Department of Applied Art and Design, Faculty of Architecture and Environmental Design where she is teaching courses in conservation majoring. Beside this she is also the Founder and Director of Art & Identity Sdn. Bhd. in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where she is giving consultation on museum mangement and preservation of collection.
