Traditions of Papermaking in the Islamic World

The Islamic Manuscript Association, in cooperation with the British Library and the Thesaurus Islamicus Foundation, is pleased to announce an inaugural symposium on the materials and techniques of making Islamic manuscripts entitled Traditions of Papermaking in the Islamic World, which will be held at the British Library Centre for Conservation on 27 March 2015.
This one-day symposium is intended for conservators, codicologists, librarians, art historians, curators, and any other researchers working with papers produced in the Islamic world, particularly those appearing in Islamic manuscripts. It will comprise lectures about current research on papermaking as well as a papermaking demonstration.
The symposium is limited to 25 participants and the papermaking demonstration is limited to 12 participants. Places will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost of attending the symposium is £7.50 for Association members and £10.00 for non-members. Please note that the members’ rate is only available to members who have paid their membership fees for the 2014-15 membership year.
