Disaster Planning for Islamic Manuscript Collections

This workshop will cover the key information for the successful management of incidents which can threaten collections from fire and water-damage.

Using case studies to illustrate the important role of preparation and practice, participants will learn salvage techniques, how to organise response in order to effectively limit damage for small scale incidents, and essentials for emergency plans. This workshop will address the limitations of planning and highlight the importance of communication, decision-making and awareness. Exercises will be used to reinforce points for successful future management.

This workshop is limited to 16 participants, registration in advance is necessary and an extra charge applies.

Mrs Emma Dadson

Emma Dadson is a Director and the Divisional Manager of Harwell Document Restoration Services (HDRS), the leading service provider of specialist salvage for the heritage sector in the UK and Ireland.  She has spent the last ten years developing HDRS' Priority User Service, used by over 900 local authorities and businesses, providing a dedicated, specialist response to document or book damage, thus minimising costs and disruption to business continuity.

In 2012 Emma completed her book Emergency Planning and Response for Libraries, Archives and Museums (Facet Publishing). The content of this book was on the basis of her practical disaster recovery experience, coupled with her training and consultancy work with clients, including courses, in-house training, desktop sessions.

Emma received the 'Business Continuity Consultant of the Year’ award at the Business Continuity Awards in 2007 and 2014, and is a previous Chair of the British Damage Management Association. She holds a Master’s degree in Classics from Oxford University and is an accredited Disaster Recovery Technician of the British Damage Management Association.
