A guided tour of Cambridge University Library with an introduction to the history of the Islamic manuscript collections and viewing of selected manuscripts
This year the Islamic Manuscript Association is pleased to offer conference attendees the opportunity to attend a guided tour of the Islamic manuscript collection at Cambridge University Library accompanied by an introduction to the history of the Islamic manuscript collections and viewing of selected manuscripts. This tour will take place on 3 September 2014, the morning after the main programme of the conference finishes, and is free of charge.
The tour is open to a limited number of participants. Please sign up in advance at the same time as booking your attendance at the conference on the registration page.
The Library is located a short walk away from Magdalene College, Cambridge town centre, and the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. Please see here for a map of the Library’s location.

Close-up viewing of selected manuscripts, supervised by Mrs Faghihi and other library staff. |

How to obtain a Reader’s Card to access the University Library’s Islamic manuscripts
If you would like to use the University Library’s manuscripts for your private study and research, you should:

Fill out the admission application form in advance, available on this page.

Bring two forms of government-issued personal identification (e.g. passport and driving license), as well as current proof of your home address (e.g. utility bill). This address must be the same as the one given on the application form.

Provide the Library’s Admissions Office with details of your research field and details of the material that you would like to consult. Full details can be found here.
You will also need to arrange an appointment at the Admissions Office to collect your Reader’s Card in person (between 9am and 10am or between 12pm and 12.45pm on September 3 would be suitable times). Cards valid for seven days are issued free of charge. If you require access for longer than seven days, a charge will be applicable.
