Collection Care and Emergency Response Grant Scheme
Funds Available
Collection Care and Emergency Response grant amount and availability
* UPDATE (3 March 2016): Please note that one grant will be awarded annually until further notice. The next award will be made in 2017. Please contact Association staff with any queries.*
Three grants of up to £5,000 are available annually. This is in addition to funds available from the Association’s Annual Grant Scheme. Only one Collection Care and Emergency Response grant project can be run at one time by an institution or individual. Unclaimed funds are not carried over to subsequent years.
Decision making
After the Association receives the application form, completed questionnaire, reference, and letter of support from the partner institution, its board of directors and suitably qualified Association members will consider them at the board meeting following receipt of the application. In some cases, the board may suggest changes to the type of assistance the applicant seeks. For example, they might recommend that one collection care and management problem should be prioritised before another. The applicant would then have the opportunity to revise the application to incorporate these suggestions before the Association’s board makes its final decision.
When awarding grants the Association will assess each application on its own individual merits, taking into account the importance of the collection, the urgency with which the collection’s needs must be addressed, the feasibility of the proposed project, sustainability and long-term management plans, the provision of training and professional development for staff, and the expertise and experience of the applicant as reflected in their application and letter of support from the partner institution.
Matching Funds
The Islamic Manuscript Association is particularly willing to match funds that have come from other sources, so please list other awards you have applied for or been granted. Applicants are requested to keep the Association informed of the outcomes of any other applications. Failure to do so may jeopardise the application’s prospects of success. If an applicant is awarded grants covering identical costs both by the Association and by another funding body, the applicant will be asked to choose which award to accept.
Installments
Except in the case of applications for emergency disaster response funding, a successful grant-holder will initially receive 80% of the total amount granted, with 20% payable upon completion of the project and submission of the final reports. It is very important that the application clearly specifies the expected stages of the project, including the completion stage, in order for the final 20% to be made available. Submission of final reports will not guarantee release of the final 20% if the project has not been delivered on the agreed terms (exceptions may be made if unavoidable circumstances force the project to be changed, if a suitable alternative is pursued, and if the grant holder keeps the board fully informed of all changes).
In the case of emergencies, 100% of the total applied for can be released as soon as the application has been approved by the executive committee of the Association.
Project Continuation
Previous grant-holder may apply for a further grant for another project or for continuation of the same project, as long as the project report for any previous grant provided by the Association has been submitted on time. There is no guarantee that further grants will be awarded, so applicants with longer-term projects should plan accordingly.
